What do you pay attention to when comparing?
When comparing your health insurance, it is smart to take a good look at the different coverages of health insurers, what the policy conditions state and whether the health insurance still meets your health needs.

That is why we have made sure that you can see in our comparator per health insurer how much free care choice you have, what additional packages they offer and what is or is not covered by health insurance.

In addition, switching health insurers is completely free and your current health insurance will be canceled automatically.

Important dates

December 31, 2025: is the last day that you can still switch from health insurance without canceling your old health insurance.

January 31, 2026:
is the last day that you can take out a new health insurance. If you choose this, you will have to cancel your current health insurance no later than December 31.

Until when can I choose health insurance

Do you want to switch? Then cancel your old insurance no later than December 31, 2025. Then you can take out health insurance until February 1 of the new year. Your new health insurance will take effect on 1 January 2026.

What is health insurance?

Health insurance is insurance that covers the costs of medical care. In the Netherlands, it is legally required to take out basic health insurance. Health insurance ensures that you do not have to pay all the costs of medical treatments yourself. Most of the care in the basic package does have a deductible. There are various types of health insurances and supplementary insurances that offer extra coverage on top of the basic insurance.

Is health insurance mandatory?

Basic insurance is mandatory if you live or work in the Netherlands. Also for kids. Additional modules are also available, which are not mandatory.

When do I have to take out a new health insurance?

Your health insurance is renewed every year. If you do nothing, you will therefore remain insured with your current health insurer. Has something changed in your health or do you know in advance that your care needs will change? Then it is wise to adjust your health insurance accordingly.

How do I choose the health insurance that best suits me?

Did you cancel your old health insurance before 1 January 2026? Then you can choose a new health insurance until January 31, 2026. Do you want a package that fits your life well? Then think about your personal situation and how it might change in 2026. If you're going to exercise more, consider extra physical therapy in the package. What is the difference between a personal contribution and the deductible?

The deductible and the personal contribution are similar. Both are costs that you pay yourself, but they are not the same. The deductible is the amount that you first pay yourself before you receive reimbursement for your care. In 2026, the mandatory deductible is €385 per year. With the personal contribution, you pay part of the costs yourself for some care. The government determines the amount and types of care of the personal contribution.

Can I pay my deductible in parts?

Yes, you can! If you prefer not to pay the deductible all at once, you can pay this amount in installments. You will then pay €38.50 10 times per month. And are you not paying your deductible? Then you will get back the overpaid amount. You can easily arrange instalments via your health insurer's portal.

Until when can I choose health insurance?

You can choose health insurance online and calculate your premium as soon as the new premiums are known (mid-November). The new insurance will then take effect on 1 January. Do you want to switch to another insurer? Then cancel your old insurance no later than December 31 of the current year. Then you can take out health insurance with us until January 31 of the new year. Your new health insurance will then take effect on 1 January of the new year. We will arrange cancellation for you if you apply for our health insurance before 1 January of the new year. If you apply for our health insurance between 1 January and 1 February, you must arrange your cancellation yourself.

Log in to your health insurer's portal. And view your personal benefits on the reimbursements page.

I'm looking for a healthcare provider, how do I find the right one?

You prefer to receive care from a healthcare provider that suits you. Insurers make agreements with healthcare providers, so the hospital near you may not have a contract with your insurer. You can check this in the comparator.

I can't pay my bill (s). What can I do?

Contact our office. We are happy to help you get the situation under control, for example, we can make payment agreements with your health insurer.

I have to pay extra fees for the pharmacy. What do I pay for?

When you pick up or receive your medication, you pay for the pharmacy's service. You cannot refuse these service charges. They are added to the total price of your medicines. Do you receive reimbursement for your medicines? Then the medicines and pharmacy costs will be covered by your basic insurance.

In the following cases, you pay the deductible:
- If your medicine is not on the list of preferred medicines
- For pharmacy services (handling costs)
- When reimbursing your medicines from the basic insurance
- Costs for the counseling interview for new medicines
- If you are 18 or older

I want to submit a claim, how do I do that?

You can submit your claim via your health insurer's portal. In most cases, this can also be done by post if you prefer.
